The Grand Prairie AirHogs announce the signing of former Texas Ranger pitcher, Pat Mahomes. Mahomes, 6′4, 220lbs, 38 yrs., will get the start on Wednesday’s early start 10:35 a.m. game against the Shreveport Bossier Captains, in front of a sold-out crowd for the AirHogs’ second annual “School Day” game.
An original sixth round draft pick by the Minnesota Twins in 1988, this is Mahomes’ third stint with the American Association as he played with the Sioux Falls Canaries in 2007 and 2008. He was named player of the week in consecutive weeks in 07′ and posted an ERA of 3.21 that year. He will be playing for another former Texas Ranger, Pete Incaviglia, who is the current manager of the AirHogs.
Mahomes has played in several leagues, many Major League affiliated teams including the Twins, Red Sox, Mets, Cubs, Rangers and Pirates, and has a history in Japan. His best season came in 1999 with the Mets as he went a perfect 8-0 with a 3.68 ERA and helped his team into the playoffs. In 2007, Toronto singed him and he became a free agent at the end of the year, where he then came back to the American Association.
